Secondly, the reafons to confirme this point that Adamhadnot this grace offaith : The rea- fon is this, this beleevingin theLord Jefus Chrif is that which doth direóly croffe the eflate of Adam in his innocency; and the innocency of Adamwherein hewascreated, and therefore can- not byno means agree to him,and that appeares thus : for aman to have a principle of life inhim - felfe whichAdamhad, and to fetch a principleof life from another, whichwee doe by faith, thefe are contrary the one to theother, hee lives well, and to bee laved by living well, and to bee faved by another, and to livewell by the power ofano- ther, thefeare contraries one maleother,tohave all in himfelfe as Adam had, and tohave all from another, and not in hirnfelfe; thefe are contrû- dietions the one to theother, and therefore can- notfland together, and therefore obferve it, the manner andphrateof Scripture is' this, and iris very flrange,Phil. 3.9.
