The Bleflcdncfs of a cheerful Countenance; and truly a glorious Soul w!ll put a Glory upon ri ~ e Body alfo, which lliall then be made more capable to reccn·e every impn:nion from the Soul. (2.) The Body Jhali be endowed with lmpa!fibiliry, neither fubjeCl: to Decays within nor Injuries without; nor ftand in any need of thofe fupports of Kcft t:Jlcep and Food, whereby they arc fuftained in Life. Why now, if \\C add to thefc the regulation of the Afl't{tions, a_nd the perfect operati?n of the Seufes, the corporal fight of the Body of JefusChnft, whiCh we may bodJly approach, and with Thom.:u put our Hands into the print of the Nails, and our Fingers into hi' fide by this we may well conclude, that our Souls cannot well conceive what our B~dies Jhall be then. Thus I have given yon, as it were, a Map of the Heavenly Canaan: But as it is with other Maps, fo it is here, every thing is reprcfented much lefs, and far fhort of what it is in reality; but it will be no great miftake when we come to Heaven7 if we find things far more and better than they were reprefented. V{e r. If then they that die in the Lord have fuch an ample Reward to follow them, Thi! jhauld .firft m.t;age them to a holy Life. Think you that thofe which fpend their time in lofty Vanity and impertinent .finful Pleafures in this World, can have any other but a doleful Cataftrophe? What Works have they to fQ\Jow them, but fuc~ a will drag them down to Tormc~ts? ~hink you then that a parting Prayer, a f11ght Lord ha11e mercy, when you are JUft gomg out of the World, that th,Jc will be judged enough to break through the numberlefs crowd of your Sins, a11d waft your Souls over into cverlafting Uleffednefs? Believe it, fuch as have been your firft, fuch fhall he your final ftate. Hazard not therefore your precious and immortal Souls upon the treacherous Refolutions of a Sick·bed; and think not that a charitable Legacy will compound with God for a finful Life. The way to Heaven will be fo obftruC\:ed by your former Guilt, that thefe your late Good \A'orks cannot follow you : Then a Man refigns up his Soul with confidence into the Hands of God; when he can reflect upon a well-fpent Life, and appeal to God with Hez..ekiah, Remember, 0 Lord, how I hlfw walked before thee itt truth and Jincenty, and done thar which U righteou! in thy fght. All other things will be but miferable Comforts in a dying hour, and will then vanifh and difappear. The Rich. Man's Bags will not follow him to the Tribunal, to bribe his impartial Judge; nor the Honourable Man's Greatnefs give him a more favourable Audience at the laft Judgment: Nor fhall the Orator's Eloquence then follow him, to cover over a b:td Caufe; but he fhall certainly mifcarry, if l1e hath not made fure of a more powerful Ad11octtte to plead for him. Thefe things will leave the poor Soul in itsgrettteft Agonies and Defpnre, and then ·it will appear, That defpifcd Holinefs and fiight~d Piety will be the only fure Companions that will ftick to us, even then, when Riches, and .Learning, and all that is idoliz'd by the World, will prove nothing but Witneifes of our Guilt and Con~ demnation. What do thefe Tears evidence, but what you think them mifcrable, or' elfe your felves fo? For their ftate is fo infinitely glorious, that they are perfencd to be King.s, and Fa'Vourites of the King of Kings, where they ftol~ i~ Pleafures and Eternal Raptures, which they inceffantly enjoy; and had you any intereft in their advancement,it would change your Affedions ofGrief and Sorrow for them into fwcet Exultation aud Admiration of their Joy and Trium1)h. Think you, that after they have tafted of thofe Ri'lltrs of Pleajure at the right hand ofGod, that ever ti1ey would be content to return to you again?
