Part IL The Living Temple. 241 Yea, and as it can never be thought congruous, that fuch an Offence a- againft an Human Governour, fhould be pardoned without the intervening Re- pentance of theDelinquent, fo we may eafily apprehend, alfo, the cafe to be fuch, as that it cannot be fit, it fhould be pardoned upon that alone, without other Recompence : Whereof if any should doubt, I would demand, Is it in any cafe fit, that a penitent Delin- quent, againft Human Laws and Go- vernment, fhould be punitht, or a pro- portionable Recompence be exaaed for his Offence, notwithftanding ?- Surely it will be acknowledg'd ordina- rily fit; and who would take upon him tobe the Cenfor of the Common yuflice of the World in all fuch Cafes !
