Without union withChrift, no Man can have either: Neither his Righteouf- nefr, nor his indwelling Spirit. Nor can they be feparable, with re- ference to the defigned End. It is an unfuppofeabie thing, that one fhould be God's Temple-enlivened, and anima- ted by hisown. Spirit, and yet be un- der remaining. Guilt, and liable every moment to his confuming Wrath ; or that he could be any whit the better, to . have all his former Guilt taken off; and be ill l dead in TrefaJs and Sins! Wherefore this latter is of equal Ne- ceeiity. Hither, therefore, we have referv'd the larger Difcourfe we intendedof the Gift, or Communication ofthe Spirit, as the moll proper Place for it.
