We read, Job xiii. 4· of Phy– jicians of no value: Such indeed are all to whom Application for Remedy is made, belides this heavenly Phyjician, who never fails to cure fuch as receive his Prefcriptions In what refpeEts Chri.ft is termed a Phyjician, is to be feen in the following Parallel. MET A PH OR. I. A Phyjici011 is a Perfon tkilful in Dillempers of the Body, knows theNature of Difeafes. II. APhyjician is one that knows the Nature of Simples, and other Ingredients that are good for Cure; fl:udies the Nature of Herbs, Plants, Minerals, &c. Ill. A Phyjician is one that is au– thorized or licenfed. They are firfl: tried, and approved, and commiffi– oned, before they are admitted to practice Phyfic, becaufe many pre– tend to it that have no Skill, but are meer cheating~acksand Mounte– banks, that kill more than they cure. IV. A Phyjician ought to !hew and produce his Authority or Li– cence to praCtice Phytic, to fuch as have Power to require it, that fo it may be the better known, whe– ther he be what he fays or nor, there being many counterfeit Phyflcians. PARALLEL. I. ~ESUS Chri.ft is very fkilful in Difl:empers of J the Soul and Body too; he knows what the Nature of every Sin is, (which is the Difeafe and Sicknefs of the Soul.) II. Chri.ft knows what the Nature, Virtue, and Property is, of all fpiritual Medicines, that are good to cure the Soul, viz. the Nature of his Word, Spirit, &c. John vi. 63. Ill. Chrifl:, the fpiritual Phylician, is authorized and appointed to this Work. 'I'he Spirit of the Lord is upon me, becaufe he bath anoimed me to preach the Gojpel to the Poor: He bath fent me to preach Deliverance to the Captives, and recovering of Sight to the Blind, to Jet at liberty them that are bruifed, Ifa. lxi. r. Luke iv. 18. All he did was as he received Commandment from the Father. He was tried many ways, and glorioufly approved, to be every way able and capable to undertake the Care and Cure of Souls. IV. Chrifl:, when he was afked about his Cam– million; or by what Authority he did thofe Things, fhewed his Power and Licence to all, produced his Father's Seal to his Commiffion, by the mighty Wonders he did; he had John alfo to bear witnefs to him, but faith he, I receive not 'I'ejlimony from Man, but have a greater Witnefs than that of John; for' the Works which the Father bath given me to finifb, the fame do bear 'UJitnefs of me, that the Father bath fent me, John v. 36, 37· By which Means he made it appear that he was no Deceiver. And indeed, whoever they b~ that rake upon them to bring in new Wa)'S and Means to cure Souls, if they cannot confirm their Doctrines by fuch Mediums that no Deceiver can pretend unto, they are meer Cheats and lmpoflors. V. A Phyfician ought to know V.
