CHRIST A LA M B. Book II. I N F E R E N C E S. I. WE may from hence admire the Excellencies of the Lord Jefus Chriil, he is Life, he IS Meat, h1dden Manna, he IS Dnnk; yea he is All in all, and provides all for Believers. II. I t fhews the milerable State of thofe that are without true I-Iolinefs, fuch are naked. Now a naked Man is expofed to the Reproach of every Eye, his Shame ap– pears to all, Nakednefs lays open to every Storm, every Shower wets, Thornes prick them; piercing and nipping Winds make thofe that are naked to lbrink. The on– converted Sinner hath the continual Pricks and Terror of his own Conlcience, and fhall thereby be filled with Horror and Shame; much more when the Arrows of the Wrath of God begin to fly about his Ears. IlL This demonftrates, that wicked Men are mad, or beftdes themlelves. None but diftraCI:ed and barbarous Men reject Cloathing. Smners will have none of Chrift, though they are naked without him; they will not put him on, will not be perfuaded to cover their Shame, turn from their evil Ways, and accept of a Robe of Righteoufneis, IV. Obferve, that none are fo well cloathed, fo richly arrayed, as Believers, as the Godly and Faithful in Chrift Jefus. V. Here is good News for the Poor, and fuch as are naked; here is a glorious Gar~ ment ready, if they will put it on. VI. That the Ungodly would be perfuaded to put on Chrift. ffl!Jef But fome may fay, What is it to put on Chrift? Anfw. r. Chrift is to be put on for J uftification ; but in that Senfe thofe Saints at Rome had put him on before. 2. Chri(t is to be put on by way of Imitation; this refers to SanCtification: We muft follow his Example in his holy and gracious Life; we mull apply his Righteouf– nefs for our J uilification by Faith, and walk by the glorious Pattern he hath lefr, to teach us to exprefs his Virtues and Excellencies in a Courle of SanCl:ilication, and new Obedience.* Jf Chrift be not put on in both thefe Relpetl:s, he will profit none to Sal– vation. VII. What will become of them, who inilead of·putting Chrift on, and following of him, put the Devil on; and inftcad of expreffing his Excellencies, they exprefs the Vices of the Devil, and Abominations of their own bafe Hearrs ? VIII. From hence let Saints be cautioned, from defiling of their Garments; a fmall Spot is quickly feen in a white Vefture. Thofe only who defile not their Garments, £hall walk with Chrift in Whlle.
