What great caufe have we to admire the Goodnefs of God; though he denied us mAdam to eat of that Tree of Life after the Fall, yet hath he provided us another Tree of Life to make us immortal! 2. THEWords, Emba.!J.ador, Legate or Mef!enger,. are . fynonimous Terms, properly fuch as are commiffioned or deputed betwixt diftant Parties, to tranfaCl: Af~ fairs of Moment. The Term is applied to Chrift, who is the Angel, Mej}enger, or Emba.f!ador of the Covmant, who not only tranfaCl:ed, but compleated the Work of Redemption, thereby reconciling God and Man, who were before at Variance and En– mity: Which fhall be further manifefted in the following Parallel. MET A PH 0 R. I. AN Embaffador or Meffenger of Peace is an honorable Perfon, and ufually a great Favo– rite to the King. II. An Embaffador is a wife Per– fan, fkilled in State Affairs, and knqws how to adj uft national Dif– ferences, or to make up a Breach or Breaches that may . be between one Kingdom and another. long between them, I Cor. i. 24. Ill. An Embaffador mull: be of known Integrity and F aithfulnefs, as well as of Ability, great Trull: being repofed in him. IV. An Embaffador is appointed and made choice of to this great Employment, and Place of Tru!l:, by the Determination and Decree ofthe King. V. A Perfon that is chofen to go as Embaffador, mull: accept of the Place and Work, before he takes his Leave of the Court. VI. An Embaffador is entrull:ed with Matters of great Weight and Moment, Things that concern Peace and War, the Welfare and Ruin of Kingdoms and Nations. 3 PAR ALL EL. I. CHRIST, the Embaffador or Meffcnger of the Gofpel of Peace, is a mo!l: noble, ho– norable, and renowned Perfon, Lord of Lords, mo!l: excellent in Worth and Dignity, one near– allied, and a great Favorite in the Court of Hea– ven, r 'I'im. vi. I 5· I!. Jefus Chri!l:, the Meffenger of the Cove– ~ant, or God's Embaffador to Sinners, is full of Wifdom and Skill in all the grand Affairs which concern the Glory of his Father, and the Welfare of Sinners: He knows how to end the Differen– ces between God and Man, and to make up that grievous and deflruetive Breach thot hath been fo Ram. viii. 6. Eph. ii. q, 14, 16. Ill. The Lord Chri!l: hath in him all the Per– feCtions of the glorious Deity; He is called the faithful and true Witnejs, Col. i. I 9· and ii. 3· Never did Embaffador act with fuch Integrity to Prince and People, as Chrilt cloth between God and Sinners. Chrill: was chofen and appointed Meffen– ger of the Covenant, by the Determination, Coun– fel, Purpofe, and Fore-knowledge of the Kmg of Heaven, Afls iv. 28. and ii. 21. hence is Chrift faid to be a Lamb jlain from the Foundatim of the World, Rev. xi. V. The Lord Jefus Chrift, when chofen to be fent on this great Embaffy, dr Meffage of Peace to Sinners, readily accepted it: Lo, it is written in the Volume of the Book, I come to do thy Will, 0 God!
