THIS Species of a M etonomy is diftinftly found in Nou1zs and 1/erbs, as when the EJfefl is put for the Caufe material!;, as 2 Kings iv. IO. '!'here is Death in the Pot– that is, deadly Poifon, which will caufe Death. So Death is put for great Perils and Dangers, '!'roubles or Calamities which caufe Death, Exod. x. IJ. Rom. vii. 24. 2 Cor. i. 10. and xi. 23. And for the Plague, Rev. vi. 8. See Prov. xi. 23. Jer. iii. 24. Shame is put for an Idol, Jer. xi. 13· Hof ix. IO.
