A Judge is very terrible up– con the Seat of Judgment, in three Refpects: 1. He is cloathed with Majefl:y. 2. He hath very great .Attendants, as theSheriffs,Jultices of the Peace, and the Gentry of the ·County ab8ut him. 3· He palfeth .a folemn and fatal Sentence upon guilty Criminals. PARALLEL. 1X. Jefus Chdl: will magnify the Law, and_ make it honorable, in that the Word or LaiV fpoken by Angels, by Mofes, by Himfelf, and his holy Apo!l:les, fhall be the Rule of Judgment at the !aft Day. X. Jefus Chrift, the high and great Judge of Heaven and Eanh, at the End of the World, on his Judgment-Seat, will be v.ery terrible in three Refpects. '· He is fet forth as being cloathed with Majefty, as Judges are with their Scarlet– Robes: Red in his Apparel, cloathed with a Gar– ment dowll to his Foot, girt about the Paps with a go/dell Girdle; his Hair like Wool, as white as Snow; his EJeS like a Flame of Fire, and his Feet like fine Bra)S, as if it burned in a Fim~ace; his .Countenance as the Sun jhining in its Strength ; and his Voice like the roaring of a Lion, the Noifeof'l'hunder, or the Sound of many Waters, !fa. lxiii. 2. Rev. i. 13, 14. 2. He will have great Attendance, even a11 the Angels in H eaven: When the Son of Man jhall come, and all the holy Angels with him, he jha!l fit upoll the Throne of his Glory, Matt. xxv. 31. All the Saints that ever were in the World fince the Beginning thereof, fhall fit upon the Throne w\th him: '!'he Lord my God jhal/ come, and alt .the Saints with him, Zech. xiv. Know you not that the Saints jhal/ judge the World? 3. He will pafs a moft folemn and fatal Sentence upon the Ungodly : '!'hey jhall not .ftand i11 tbe Judgment, nor Sinners in the Congregation of the Righteous, Pfal. i. 5· The Sentence will be, Depart from me, y Workers of Iniquity, I know you not. Go, Je .Curfed, into everlafting Fire, prepared for the Devil and his Angels, which with the Coniequences of it, and Reafons afligned, you have at large, Matt. xxv. from 41, to the End. 0! the fad Shrieks, the hideous Noifes, the woful and lamentable ·Out-crys, from high and low, that will attend this folemn Sentence, which no Tongue of Man is able to expcefs. XI. A Judge hath the Com– ·mand of Officers to fee Sentence .executed as pronounced, as She– ·riffs, deputy Sheriffs, with Keep– .ers of Pri!ons, and the like. XI. So Jefus Chri!t the univerfal and fll– preme Judge, hath the full Command of all the good and elect Angels, who attend the Court at the great Aflizes, to fee that no Refiftance nor Efcape be made, but that Sentence be fully exe– cuted upon all the treafonablc, black, rebellious and condemned Crew ; Take and bind them Hand mzd }oot, and it follows, Theft jha!t go away into everlafting Punijhmmt, Matt. xxv. 46. N F E R E N C E ~ JF there be a Judge, a Time, a Place, and \'Vork of Judgment, we do infer thefe three Things, . I. \'Vhat great need Unbelievers, Rebels, Traitors, and all Offenders have of :Pardon, there being nothing elfe will !tand them in !l:ead when they appear before 1:he great Judge, where there will be no pleading, not guilty, becaufe of full Evidence to matter of Fact ; no pleading Ignorance, becauie a known and eftablifhed Law is ·broke; no Benefit of Petitions, becaufe the King is gone off the Mercy-Seat; nQ relying upon rhe wrong Verdict of corrupt Jurors., becaufe no fuch Perfons will be found tl1ere to afford help. Nothing avails with the J udge in this Judgment-Day, Mztt. xxii. 1. but a white Stone, a vVedding-Garment, the fpotlefs Righteoufnefs of .Jefus Chrifl:: All who want this Robe will in that Day be fpeechlefs. II. How fad will it'fare with all thole that go out of this World without Faith in the San of God, without the Pardon of their Sins I Wo, unto fuch in that Day that ever they were born. Look to it, all you Unbelievers, Swearers, Whoremongers, Perfecutors, Liars, Sabbath- breakers, Lovers of Pleafures more than Lovers of God, covetous Perfons, proud Perfons, Thieves, Drunkards, and Backfliders, what will you do in that Day.r as fure as God liveth you will be all condemned (tmlefs you repent and believe in Chri!l:, 1 Cor. vi. 9, o o.
