54.2" THE WORD OF GOD COMPARED 'to LIGHT, Book IlL for Sin, the Devils perhaps, faith a Divine,* might have cried out againfr him, and have faid, where is rhe Glory of thy Juftice! Thefe have Gnned againrl rhee, as well as we, and the Breach they have made upon thy J uftice, is no w•vs made up: But now their Mouths are ftoped for ever. This Reconciliation will be to the Glory of God in the Sight of Angels and Men to Eternity, and it is that "hich God rejoices in as being exceedingly pleafed with it, feeing his Honoris made -up in this Reconciliation. 6. It is an abiding, firm and everlafting Reconciliation; there is nothino- can make a Breach betweenGod and his People any more; the Union canner, O~all not be broke, it is beyond the Power of Devils, Men, Sufferings, nay, or Sin either, to do it, Who jha/1 be able to feparate tts from the Low of God which is in Chrij/Jeji!s our Lord? Ro?ll. viii. 39· · Fifthly, GofpeJ.reconciliation is glorious in refpeE\ of the Fruits, EifcCls, and Con– fequences of it. I. In that all that Enmity that was between God and the So~l comes hereby to be removed, and Man confequcntly to have Peace with God. For he is our l'er!ce <obo hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle fVall of Partitioa b,·t;;;een us, having abolijhed in his Flejh, &c. and that he might reconcile both unto God irz one Body by the Croft, having jlain the Enmity .-hereby, arzd came and preached Peace. Bei11gjujlijied by Faith we have Peace with God through our L ordJeji<> Chrijl, Eph. ii. 14, 15, ro, 17. Rom. v. r. 2. Peace of Confcience is another Fruit and Effect of this Reconciliation 3· There is alfo as the EffeCls of this Reconciliation, Peace and fweet Harmony in the Soul between all the Faculties; they do not fight as formerly one agawft another, t)le Confcience drawing one way and the Will another, the Will oppofing that ~ hrch Confcience would have done; the J odgmenc may be convinced in fame meafure as Balaam's was, who cried cut that God's Ways were beft, How goodly are tby 'Teiils, 0 Jacob, and thy 'Tabernacles, 0 lfrael! Numb. xxiv. 5· and yet the Alldtions may be for Sin, and love the Wages of U nrighteoufnels. 4· The next Thing that I might mention is Joy in the Holy Ghoft, when once a / Soul knows he is reconciled to God then he comes not only to have Peace, but alia to be filled with Joy in believing, the Kingdom of God is not Meat and Drink, but Rio-hteoufnefs and Peace, and Joy in the Holy Ghoft. '5. Free Accefs to God is another Fruit and Effect of Gofpel-reconciliation; fu ch may go with Boldnefs 10 the Throne of Grace, 'Tbrougb him we both (i. e. Jews and Gentilt' who believe) have Accefs by the Spirit to the Father, Eph. ii. 18. , 6. Hence there is a free and bldfed Trade opened between Heaven and Earth, be– tween God and the Soul; as in Countries that are in VVar one with anotba, then: can be no Trade nor Traffic between them, bot when Peace is .made, and a fore League concluded betwixt them, Tradj is open again, fo is it between God and the Soul when reconciled. 7· By this M eans we come in a fpecial Manner to be under the Care and ProteClion of God, there llull not one Hair fall to the Ground without the Leave and Permi!Don of God, he has hereby interefted himldf in all our Concerns, and mJny other bkOod Effetl:s attend our Reconciliation with God, which arc clfewhere inftfted upon. Sec Mediator.. Sixthly, The Gofpel is glorious in refpeCl: of Remiffion or P•rdon of Sin, Gofpelremiffion is a alorious RemifTion: I. By confidering who it is that is pardoned, or who they are that God forgives? 1. Rebels, fuch that had broke an holy and juft Law. . 2. Rebels to God, fuch that had confpired again!\ him, joined and fided Wtth Sa– tan ao-ainft the Majefl:y of Heaven. 3 . "such that were greatly in Debt, owed ten thoufand Taknrs, and nothing tq.pay. Sec Metaphor Poor. + Such that were liable to eternal Wrath. I!. By conGderino- the Caufes, and chief Ground or W ay of Pardon, Chrift's Blocd ?'uft be lhed to pro~ure it; Witbout jheddi?lg of Blood tbm is uo R emijjion of Siu, Heb. • llfr, Burrough~.
