This antidotes the Soul againft the Venom of Satan's Temptations. 1. He pardons the Sinner that bath Power to do it; who but God can forgive Sin? z. Who can accufe the Soul ? I will, faith Satan; thou art a Sinner: What then, faith the Soul ? The Promites may be compared to the Land of Promife, they Bow with Milk and Honey, they are like a rich Mine, abounding with precious Trea– fure, the fun her you dig, the more precious Gold you will find. Or they may be com– pared to a lovely and choice Garden that abounds with all Sons of rare and excellent Flowers, but it is a Garden alW1)'S green and Aouri01ing, Flowers that knows no Drought nor 'vVinter, that never decays; not only for .Picafure, but for Profit. A gofpel Pro– mife is fomething that God hath engaged to give to Chrifl:, or unto us through Chriit, or for his fake. A nd they confifl: either in his free befl:owing of Good, or his gracious removing of Evil. In his beftowing of Good here, or Good hereafter; or in removing of Evil here, or Evil hereafter. And they either are abfolute or conditional. Gofpel Promiles are glorious Promifes, called precious Promifes; and better Pro– miles rhan thofe of the L aw or firit Teftament. 1. This appears if we c<Jnlider who it is that makes and g ives thefe Promifcs forth, viz. the great God , Ram. i. z. Men think they have enough when they have the l'r0mife and Word of a King, touching this or that, to rely upon, but what is the Promife or 'vVord of an earthly King, ro the Promiies of the King of Heaven and Eanh, they often times faJ in their Promifes ; but this King never did. 11. Glorious, ii we confider the Time when given, and that was before the Foun– dation of the W{)rld.
