I J Were a Man call: for Life and condemned to die a painful and horrible Death, fup• pofe it were to be burnt or roafted alive, and a Pardon tbould be proffered to him in the very nick of Time, how fweet and precious would that be to him; even fo feafon– able and fweet are the Promifes of the Gofpel to poor condemned Sinners, God gives them into the Soul when it fees it is juft dropping into Hell to be burnt for ever in eternal Flames. IX. Promifes of the Gofpel are glorious :n refpeCl: of the Firmnefs and Stability of them. Gofpel Promifes are firm and fure Promifes. r. They are not yea and nay, not uncertain, doubtful, mutable, and variable, but yea and Amen in Chrift Jefus. God ever kept his Promifc with his Peopk, 2 Cor i. I. He promifed Noah he would not drown the World any more, and how graciouf– ly hath he kept that Promife and continued the Token of it in the Cloud unto this Day? 2. God promifed Abraham a Son, and wiil work Miracles rather than not make that Promife good. 3· God promifed to give the Land of Canaan and Reft therein to his Seed, how puntl:ual was he in performing of it, as Solomon well obftrves, I Kings viii. 56. Blejfed be the Lord that bath given Rejlto his People Ifrael, according to all that he promiftd: '!'here bath not failed one Word of all his good Promife, &c. It was declared to Abraham that his Seed tbould be Strangers in the Land of Egypt four hundred Years, and Mofes thews that at the End thereof, nay the very ftlf-fame Day, the Lord brought them out of the (aid Land, Exod. xii. 41 . 4· God promiled to fend a Savior, and accordingly when the Fulnefs of Time was come, he fent him into the World. 5· And that Gofpd Promifes might be firm and fure to all the faithful and Cove– nant-people of God, they are put into Chrilt's Hand, who having !bed his Blood to procure the Good promifed, hath received the Promifes for us as our Truftee, Afls ii. 33· 'I'herefore being by the Right-hand of God exalted, and haviltg received the Promife of the Holy Ghojf, he bath fhed forth this, which ye now fee and hear. 6. That the Promifes might be made fure to all the Seed, Chrift hath brou<>ht him– felf under an Obligation to make them good.
