THE c H u R c H OF R 0 M E, nook !V. be as innocent as the Child unborn: To be tlevated to the highef1: Pinnacle of Prid<. even above Emperors and Kings, above Jefus Chril1:, and God his Father; and yet be humble and lowly: To commit grofs Idolatry; and yet be the Servants of the livin<> God: To be filled with, and make a Trade of Excefs and Drunkennefs ; and yet b~ the Patterns and Standards of Sobriety and Temperance: To cafl: down the Truth to the Ground, deface the Laws of God, and burn the Scriptures; and yet be the true Witneffes to it: To forgive Sins; and yet be the greatef1: of Sinners themftlves: To commit Fornication and Adultery; and yet be fpotltfs and pure in Heart: To foment Wars anti Broils in every Kingdom and Country where they have Power; to contrive the Ruin of Towns and Places, Cities, Countries, and Kingdoms, by Fire, Sword, and cruel Devaftations; and yet be as harmlefs as Doves to all Mankind, the only Sons of Peace and O!:•ietnefs: To !laughter, kill,. and barbaroufly murder Men, \Vo– men, and Children, that dare not be fo wicked as thcmfelves; and yet to be full of Mercy, tender Pity, and CompafT10n; an Apoftle, Shepherd, Vicar, and Succdfor of the meek and Lamb-like Savior. And for the clear Confort of this impious Head, or Man of Sin, to be not only confederate with him, but a Principal in all thefc unpa– ralleled Villanies, and mofr butcherly and rapacious Murders; and yet be the Holy Catholic Church of God, the pure and fpotlefs Spoufe of Jefus Chril1:, the true Sheep, the harmlefs Lambs, the befr of Saints, and clofe Followers of the Lord Jefus, who always taught the contrary by his holy DoCtrine, and meek Example. We fay, thefe Things not being found by fecret Search, but are written in capital Letters upon her Forehead, appear in open View, to be read by every one that is not wilfully blind: L<!t any one fhew us a greater Myftery in the World than this, and we will (ubfcribe to it. 4· It cannot be the 'l'urks, becaufe they are not the Mother of Harlots, and Abo– minations of doe Earth, which this Baby/on is faid to be, Rev. xvii. 5· And upon her Forehead was a Name written, MYS'l'ERY, BABYLON '!HE GREA'T, 'THE MO– '!HER OF HARLO'TS, AND ABOMINA'l'IONS OF 'tHE EARTH. And here we demand, in excufe to the 'l'urks, this one Thing: From whence did proceed the Murders, Malfacres, and Martyrdoms of all the reli– gious Profelfors of Chriftianity, that have died by Violence in the Chrifrian World, for the Space of twelve hundred Years lafr paf1:? And from what People did proceed thofe horrid Oaths, Blafphemies, and Execrations, that the World bath woefully been ac– quainted with, mofr horrid and l\rangely a!lonifhing to repeat ? Came thefe unparalleled Degrees of Impiety from the 9urks? from the Waldenjians, Lutherans, Calvinifls, or any Non-conformiiig Protejfants? No, no. Why, whofe Lan– guage then is it? Whofe! Why, it is the Language of the Beaft of the bonomlefs Pit, and bloody Whore, who bare thefe blafphemous Sons of her own Body, daily nourifhes them at her Breatt, and ftrengthens them in their finful Courfes, by account– ing them the Sons, the precious Sons of Sion, the true Sons of the Catholic Church, the Darlings of Heaven, the beloved Ones of the Virgin Mary, and giving them Par– dons for thefe bold and Heaven-daring Sins, as often as they do commit them, and come to afk Pardon for them : fo that Sin and Pardon is as conl1:ant and common with them, as Breathing and Eating. And thefe Things are done to feal and confirm Lies, which is the more heavy, heinous, and prodigious: For if Men may lie by Allowance; may kill, and fhed innocent Blood, without Controul of Confcience, and Church– Cenfures; may [wear and blafpheme, and challenge God himfelf to damn them; may burn Men for Religion, confume Cities to 1\fhes, confpire the Death of Kings, the Ruin and dverthrow of Kingdoms, whore, and murder Infants; and yet be accounted a Church, the Members and Parts of it, called Saints, holy Children, and Sons of 1he Moll: High God : Then may we claim a Patent, and take a Licenfe to change the Name of all Things, and alter all the Ideas of the Minds of Men; call and account Beelzebub a good God, and all his black Tribe, the pure Saints of the Moft High; 11<1ll the lower Regions of Blacknefs and Darknefs, to which he is confined, the He2ven of Glory and eternal Light. Of which Things we ought in Ju!lice to clear the 'Iurks, until Witneffes of undoubted Credit thall come forth, and evidence, that the -'Iurkijh S.tote is the Mother of as great Abominations as thefe are. 5· And laf1:ly; The 'l'urks cannot be Myftery Baby/on, becaufe they never were made <lrunk with the Blood of the Saints, and with the Blood ofthe Martyrs of Jefus, which 2 ili~
