METAPHO~ PARALLEL :their Rife with Rome Papal upon the Divifion or R uin of the Roman Empire in its civil State, the Body of·which Kingdoms may well be called many Waters, viz. Peoples, .and Multitudes, and Nations, and Tong ues, or People of.feveral Languages, whicl1 were as well known to have been under the Ufurpation and J urifdiction of Rome Papal, as their being fa; which doth fully anfwer to the very Letter of the Text, 'The Waters which ,thou Jaweft, wherc011 the Whore jitteth, are Peoples, Multitudes, Nations, and 'Tongues, 'Rev. xvii. 15. z. He making all the European Merchants r4ch, that traffic by Sea, by the great 'Expence of all Commod ities which are !wallowed up within her Terri tories and Domi-· nions, Rev. xviii. t t. which could never be effected unltfs fhe had Nations and Mul– titudes to comribure to her great Pride and Luxury. 3· A third ln!hnce is, the numberkfs Number of good Chriftians which fhe hath drawn in and murdered , for no other caufe than their fearing God, and obeying his Laws by loving Jefus Chrift, and following his Example, of which we have a large Account in Fox's /lfis and Monumm!s, and othtr Hiftories ; upon which we form this Argument: Argument. If there be no Body of People, profdfed Church or State in the Chriftian Wor1d, under any fingle DC'nomination, that fits upon, co:nmands or bears rule over · .Peoples, Multitudes, Nations and Tongues, as R ome Papal, or Church ot Home, cloth: Then Rotne Papal, or the Church of Rome, is this Baby/on treated of. But there is no Body of People, profdfed Church or State,' under any fingle Deno– mination, that fits upon, commands or bears rule over Peoples, Multitudes, Nations, .and Tongues, as Rome Papal, or Church of R.ame doth. Ergo, ·&r. To the eftab!i01ing this Argument, let it be confidered, that the whole State of the Chriftian World confifts of but thefe two Parts, as we !11eweci before, viz. the Church of Rome, confidered as Head and Bolly, and thofe that ddfent from her, and thofe are fo inconfiderable, whether the Waldenfes, /1/bigenfes, Hugonots or other Parries of Proteftants, that no one Patty of them, nay if we put them all rogerher, can be faid · to fit upon, command, or bear rule over, Peoples, Multitudes, Nations, and Tongues ; to anfwer the Text, the Wa/denfes and.Hugonots, have been and tlill are, a perfecuted People, the Lutheram never got up fo high as to command many States, or King– doms, or Places of many Languages; Great Britain, rl10ugh a proteflant State, or .Kingdom, comes not near to fullfil the Text, much lefs the feven Provinces that of late revolted from Spain. So that if R.owe Papal had done fo, and no other l:'eopk that di!fent from her could ever do the like, ,then this proves Rome Papal the Whore that .fits upon many Waters, &c. ' VII. Myftery Bahylon, or the ogreat Whore, is fuch a Woman, fuch a City, fuch a Whore, that the Kings and great Men of the Earth have committed Fornication with. See the Text, fVith whom the Kings of the Earth have com– mitted Fornication, Rev. xvii. 2. i. e. fpirirual Fornication, or For– nication in a Myftery, after a myf– terious Mann~r, fuch as ]erufalem ofold was charged with, which was a following the fame 'Idolatry that this Woman Baby/on had fer up, and was devoted unto; and fo great ·was her Fornication, that it is faid, <lhe did corrupt the Earth with it, :z Chron. xxi. 21..' Rome Papal, or Church of Rome, is fuch a "Woman, fuch a City of Confufion, fuch a Whore that the Kings of the Earrh have committed For– nication with, and that hath corrupted the E acth with her Fornications, Fornications after a myf– terious Manner, by following abominable Super– ftition and Idolatry. 1.
