To clear her fuppofed H eretics from this red and blood-y Crime. . (i.) lt.is again!!: their Principle to kill Men for Religion, and this they do avowedly .profefs, pleading for Liberty of Confcience, in Matters purely Religious in all Places. (2.) They have wanted .Power to do it, in cafe they had been for it in Principle, all Power being in the Hands of Papi!l:s before the Reformation. , . (3.) Where there hath .fince been a Proteftant Seat or Kingdom, governed by Laws different from that _of the Popifh Countries, yet they have not made ufe of their Power .and-Laws, to take away the Lives of Papifts meerly for Religion; and if it hath hap– pened at any 'I:ime, that fome ecclcfia!l:ical Perfons have been put to Death by Prote– Hants ; it has been but very rare and fddom, and the Caufe not for their Religion, but -for Sedition, Rebellion and Treafon: Otherwile tl<ey have lived peaceably under Pro.. teftant Governors, enjoying 1heir civil Right in common with other Men. And for .the confirming of this, we 1)1ake a Challenge to all Chriftendom to come forth and make .it appear, where England, Scotland, and Ireland, the United Provinces, &c. fince th.e .Reformation, have, by Malf.1cres, Murders, or Martyrdom, ym one Thoufand, nay one Hundred to Death, of Men, Womm, and Children, only becaufe they profdferl the Romifh Religion, or any Religion different from theirs: So far have they been from .making themfelves drunk with the .Blood of Saints, and religious Men. And if this cannot be done, then having brought our Character within the Confines of the Chrif– tian World, we muft necdfarily charge this .Drunkennefs,.by Blood, qpon the Church .of Rome. This Head we will conclude with the following Argument: If no Sect of People in the Chri!l:ian World, be guilty offo much Blood, drunk with ·Blood, innocent Blood, Blood of Saints as the Church of Rome is. Then the Church .of Rome js.this \'Voman that St. John .faw, to his great A!tonifhment, drunk, with the Blood,of the Saints, aRd the Martyrs of Jefus. But there is no Sect of People, &c. guilty. of fo much Blood, or drunk with the .Blood of .Saints, .&c. Ergo, The Church of Rame is this Woman, &c. XIV. Baby/on is a Church or ·Body of .
