Book IV. M Y S T E R Y B A B Y L 0 N. 86g M E T A P H 0 R. P A R A L L E L; great Head and Power it hath been, therefore it is the eighth Head which carries the . Whore, according to the exprefs Letter of the Text, and !hall go into Perdition. And that by the vVoman, City, or Whore, that fltterl1 upon the feven Mountains, is meant Rome, we have no caufe to doubt, becaufe the great Sons of Rome· themfelves, as Baronius, Bellarmine, and many others do confefs it; but would defend their Mo .. ther from being a Whore, by putting it off to the Power of Rome in its Heathen State; to which we have fully anfwer£d already: And do fay, that Rome Papal is neither the fixth Head, nor the feventh, bm the very !aft Bea!t, or eighth He,rd, in which there is a fecular and an eccleflaftical Power joined together; which makes up a Beall, a moft blafphemous Beaft, and a vVhore, a mofl: devilifh, drunken, and bloody Whore, which hath her Seat upon feven Mountains, on which this City of Rome was built, as before. This Paragraph we !hall fhut up with this Argument: Argument. If Rome Papal, or .Church of Rome, be borne up by a fccular Power, which had feven fovereign Governments, feared upon feven Hills. Then J< ome Papal, or Church of Rome is the very Myfl:ery Bab)'lon, that the Apollle Job faw in his Apo– calyptical Viflon. But R ome P apal, or Church of Rome, is borne up by a fcc ular Power, which had [even fovereign Governments, and feated upon !even Hills. Ergo, Rome Papal, or Church of Rome is the very Myllical Bab)•lon, &c. This Argument fhines fo clear, that unlef.< our Adverfaries can aflign any Protefl:ant State, by them called .Heretical, that thefe CharaCters do better and more fully agree to, it mult pafs for curr.ent Coin; and which we fhall be ready to receive from them' So we proceed. XV. Myftery Baby/on, is .not XV. Rome Papal, or Church of Rome, is not only a bea!tly Woman, that hao only a beaftly Woman, that has made herldf made herfelf .drunk with the Blood drunk with the Blood ot the Saints and Martyrs of the Saints and Martyrs of Jefus, of Jelirs, that fits .upon a lleafl:, or the Remains that fits upon a Beaft that had feof that.l'ower, which had feven Sorts of love>eign .ven Heads, or feven Sorts of foveGovernments, and is .feared upon feven Moun– ·reign Governments, and was feared ,rains; that profdfes herfelf the Mother of all Jpi– upon feven Mountains ; that proritual Power and J urifdiction : But is fuch a Wo– feffeth herfelf the Mother ofall fpiman, and fuch a City, that once the Viflon and ritual Power and J urifdiC\ion : But .Prophecy of St. John, hath for feveral hundreds fuch a Woman, and fuch a City, of Years re1gned over the Kings of the Earth ; fhe that in the Eye cif the Vifion, had, hath governed a great Part of Italy, if we will be– did, or was, .to reign over che lieve herfelf, ever fince Confim;tine, who gave it -Kings of the Earrh, Rev. xvii. 18. as a Patrimony to St. Peter, fhe hath h~d her .And the Woman which thou fawtft, Kingdom over German)', fo long upon France, is that great Cit)', which reigncth Spain, Porlugal, Poland, England, Scotland, and over the Ki-ngs of lhe Earth. Ireland; fo that their Kings have been governed by her; whom fhe would, they killed ; whom !he willed, they worfhipped, and fo beqme guilty of drinking the Wine of her Fornica– tion; whom !he willed, they fet up ; whom ihe willed, they plucked down. vVhat !he required, they paid themfelves, and made their People pay alfo. When fhe wiiJed, they raifed Arms.; and when fhe willed, they laid them down again. What fhall we fay, the Church of Rome.hathhad fuch a Power over the Kingdoms of Europe, that the .Power and Wills of Princes have been controuled and over-ruled, when in any confi– derable Cafe they have gone contrary to the Senle and lnrerefl: of the Church, and that tO fuch a Degree, as they have fometimes made them do Penance, refign up their Crowns, and then receive them again as an Aft of Kindnels, from the Chair of St. Peter, which affords us ground for fuch an Argument as this: Argument. if there be no.grea.t. and confiderable llody of People in theChrillianWorld, that hath fa evidently and apparently reigned over the Kings of the Earth, as Rome Pa– pal, or Church of Rome hath done: Then Rome Papal, or Church of Rome, is this Ba– by/on,.City, or People, that St. John fets forth. But there is no·fuch great and conflderable Body, &c. .Ergo, Rome Papal, &c. mt:ft be this Baby/on, &c. The Mqjor is undeniable: the Minor is fo notorioufly known to the whole World, · 10 M tha>
