You are given up to him, you are not at your own difpofe 5 neither Tongue, nor Heart, nor Eftate is thine; God gave it, and if thou art a Chriftian, thou haft given up thy felfto him. SERMON IX JOHN XVII. 6. I have manifefted thyWame unto the Men which thou gawp me out of the World : thine they were, and tbou gaveft them nie, and they have kept th,y Word. Secondly, H E Y are committed to him by way of Charge. In opening this, I than enquire ; r. Who are the Perfons that are thus given to Chrift ? I anfwer, The Elea, and no other. I Anfwer, (t.) The word given, is there ufed Indefinitely, for ttiofe given to Chrift by way of Reward, as well as thole given to him by way of Charge. Hypocrites, be- cauCeof their External Vocation, are faid to be given to Chrift, by way of Miniflry and Service, but not by way of fpecial Charge. That is notable which Chrift faith, John 13. 18. I(peak not of you all, I know whom 1 bave chofen: but that the Scripture may be fulled, He that eateth with me, bath lift up his Heel againft me. Where he thew- eth plainly, that one of them was not of the Number of the Elea, and should not receive the Privileges of his efpecial Charge : Though he was chofen to the Calling of an ..ipoffle, yet not to Eternal Life. Chrift knoweth the number of the Heirs of Sal- vation, and who only are given him by way of Ministry and Service of the Church. The words are not acceptive, but adverfative, none of them is loft, but the Son of Perdition is lolls the words are not rendred except the Son of Perdition, but, but the Son of Perdi- tion ; it is not mitt, but fed. There is no exception made of yudw, as if he had been given to Chrift, and afterward had fallen away It is . not nemo nit Filins Perdition', but when he had mentioned their keeping, he would adverfatively put the lofing of Judas.
