The parallel place teems to countenance this Expoli- tion, John 16.15. All things what(bever the Father bath, are mine; therefore, faid I, that he (hall take of mine, and fball Pero it unto)nu. , Chrift had fpoken of this Departure, his Abfence was to he fupplied by the Spirit ; row left this Ihduld feem to derogate from himfelf, he faith, He Ad/ take ofmine; he (hall enrich the Church with the Treafures purchafed by me; I bought them with a dear Price, and in the way of Grace will diftribute them : Now left this fhould derogate from the Father, he addeth, All things rehatfoever the Father hash, are mine : the fame Fulnefs of the Godhead, Majefty, Perfet.ti- on, Effence, Bleffedneh. It is the Father's Spirit and mine;, Chrift came in as an Heir to the Father, and the Spirit as Executor to Chrift of his IA Will and Teftament. I cannot utterly exclude this Sence, yet I think it is not the formal intent of this Place. From hence we may gather the Unity, and yet the Di11in &ion of the Divine Perfons, they have.their dil}in& Right and Tide, and yet they all communicate in the fame Ef- fence, Dignity and Priviledges. 2. To Perfons ; and fo it implieth not the uncreated Riches of the Godhead, but their created Goofs and Poffef ions. Believers are the created Treafure of the'Di- vinity, and every Perron hash a dillind Right: Chrift faith to the Father, They are thine, and again, They are mine ; and the Spirit is not to be excluded, tho he be not mentioned, as appearetb in the parallel Place, but now quoted. They are God's Chil- drens, Chrift's Members, and the Spirits Temples. Brut to come more clofrly to the Words : All mine are thine, and thine are mine. How are Believers Chrift's ? how the Father's ? The fieft Title Chrift hath to us,. is the fame that he bath to all things elfe ; all things are Gods and Chrift's by Creation and Prefervation: So the whole Godhead faith, Ezell 18. 4. All Souls are mine : God is the Maker and Judg of all. But that Sence is too large for this place; Chrift ufeth it as a fpecial Argument why he prayed for his own, and not for the World : Another fort of Creatures mutt be underftood, by Creation the Beafts are theirs as well as Men, Pfalm 50. to. For every Belli of the Forert is mine, and the Cane' upon a thrufand Bills. But there is a peculiar Heritage, in which they delight, of which it is laid, a Tim. 2. 19. The Foundation of the Lord ftandeth fire, having this Seal; the Lord knows thole that are his. There is a number of Men whore' Names %re written and fealed; Now there are the Father's, the Son's, the Spirit's. The Text fpeaketh only of the two firft Perfons, and fo I (hall mainly carry on the Difcourfe. The diftinit Poffei- on mutt be underftood according to the Perfoual Propriety of each Perlon Thine by Eleftion, mine by Redemption: All that I am to redeem, to make Interceffion for, that are to have benefit by me, are God's Eled ; and all God's Elcd are to have be- nefit by me. The Point which I (hall handle is, the Commenfurablenefs of the dilinil Propriety of all the Perfons in Believers ; Ele&ion, Redemption, and Sanllifcation, are of the fame Sphere and Latitude. They are one joynt Poffelfor, Lord and Maker; All mine are thine, and thine are mine, All that the Father eleûeth, the Son redeemcth; and t may add (becaufe he communicateth in the fame Unity of F(fence) the Spirit fanâi- fieth. .So the Apoftle, i Pet. Elea according to the Fere-knowledg of God the Father, through Sanaifuation of the Spirit unto Obedience, and the f rinkling of the Blood of yefu, Chri 5 the fame Perfons are interefted in there perfonal Operations of the fame Godhead. Eleltion is afctibed to God the Father, Sanftification to the Spirit, and Reconciliation to Jefus Chrift. The beginning is from God the Father, the Difpen- fation through his Son Jefus Chrift, and the Application through the Holy Gholt. This is the Chain of Salvation, and never a Link of this Chain mull be broken: the Son cannot die for them whom the Father never elelted; and the Spirit will never làndify them whom the Father hath not defied, nor the Son redeemed. Reafons. I. From the Unity of Effence, they are one, and if any Perron be interefted in them, all muff ; otherwife Men might be beholden to Chrift, that were never be- holden to the Father nor the Spirit : They are äpoísmot, and äµónteoy of one Effence, and of equal Dignity, none (hall be beholden to one, that are not beholden to the other. It is very notable that when Chrift fpeaketh of his own Flock, and the Cer- tainty of their Converfioo, and the Surenefs of their Elate, he fait), join ío.27, :8, 29, 50.
