'EV Ta6Til, by which the Elders obtained a good Report : For thy Name, Ephef. 4.32. Ai God for Chrii is fake hath forgivenyou; oeh iv xe,esw; Co Rom.r6.2. Receive her in the Lord, iv Ku &w ; that is, for the Lord's fake. (t.) If it be in thy Name, then the meaning is, in the Knowledgof thy Truth; for by the Name of God is meant any thing by which he is made known. The Do &rine of the Gofpel in this Chapter, is called,his Name, VerC 6. I have manifefied thy Name to them ; meaning the whole Do &rine of Godlinefs. So Chrift prayed), ¡(,cep them in thy Name ; that is, in the confrant Profeffion of the Truth; let them not be cheated out of it by Satan, nor affrighted out of it by Perfecutions 5 but let them conflantly hold it forth, defend and propagate it to the World. (a.) By thy Name : fo God's Name is Himfelf, and Himfelf is his Name. So Exod. 23. 2 t. My Name is in him; that is, he is of the fame Effence and Glory with me. So, By thy Name, is by thy Self, thy Power, Mercy, Goodnefs, Truth, blá -rk es postÑaç, Chryfo. fiam, by thy gracious Affrflance. (3.) For thy Names fake, to thew forth thy Mercy, Truth, Faithfulnefs. Thefe Expofitions may be compounded, keep them in thy Truth, or the Wor(hip and Profeffion of thy Name, by thy Power, for thy Names fake, to difcover thy Mercy, and Truth; thy Mercy, in taking them into a (late of Grace; thy Truth, in preferving them in the (late of Grace. The Points are two. s. That the Perfeverance of the Saints, or their Confervation in the State of Grace; it Are and certain. a. That we are kept in the _plate of Grace, by God's Name, by his Power, for his Glory. Do &. z. That the Perfeverance of the Saints, or their Confervation in a fiate of Grace, i6 fore and certain. I.
