By the World is not meant the unconverted Ele &, for Chrift had comprehended all the Bled in there Words, Neither pray I for thefè alone, but for them alfa which fhallbelieve in me through their Word, Verle 20. The Matter of his Prayer is, that they may be bye, &ce and the R eaCon, that the World may believe that thou haft lent Me. So that by the World is meant the reprobate loft World, who (hall continue in final Obftinacy. By believing is meant not true Caving Faith, but common Convi &ion, that they may be gained to fome kind of Faith, a temporary Faith, or Come general Profeffion of Religion a$ ohn 2. a 3, 2 4. Many believed in his `.S. ame, when they few the Miracles which he did i But Jefas would not commit himf if unto them, becaufe he knew all Men. And John i a. 42, 43. Neverthelefr among the chief Riders alfa many believed on hint, but becánfe of the Pharifees, they did not confefi him, le fl they fhould be put out of the Synagogue : For they lo- ved the Pratfe of Men more than the Praife of Gad. There Believing is taken for being convinced of the Truth of his Religion, which he had eftablifhed, though they had nd mind to profefs it ; or if fo, yet they did not come under the full polder Cif it. But how is this the Fruit of the Myftical Union ? The Fruits of the My(ticat Unión are four, to this purpofe. . 1. Holinefs. Whofoever is in Chrill, k a new Creature, a Cot. 5. i7. Division in the Church breed Atheilm in the World. 3. Conftancy in the Profeffìon of the Truth. Jude i. To them that are fanclfrred by God the Father, and preferved in fefusChrif, and called. We.are preferved in Chrift, as Wine, in the Hogs -head, being in the Cabinet where God's Jewels are kept. Now this is taking with the World. 4. Special Care of God's Providence. God keepeth them as the Apple of his Eye i. Dan. 2. 47. Ofa truth it ir, that your God is a God of Gods, and a Lord of Kings, and a Revealer of Secrets, feeing he could reveal unto you this Secret. 1 Cor. 14. 25.. Aid thus are the Secrets of his Heart made manifef, and fofalling down on his; Face, he will toorfliip' God, and report that God is inyou of a truth. Dan. 3.28. Bled be the God of Shadrach, Methech and Abednego, who bath first his Angel, and delivered his Servants that trofted in him, and bath changed the King's Word, and yielded their 'Bodies, that they might not ferve, nor worfhip any God, except. their own Gad. Dan. 6. 27. He delivereth and re fcueth, and he worketh Signs and Wonders in Heaven and in Earth, who bath delivered Daniel front the Power of the Lions. Jofhua 2. 11. That the general Conviliion, which the loft World bath of the Truth of Chriflianit,, is a very great Bleffing to the Church. Chrift here prays for it, let them beone ; and why ? that t be loft World, who are left out of his Prayer, may believe that thou haft fens me; that they might not count Chrift to be an Impoftgr, nor the Dodtrine of the Gofpel a Fa- ble.
