But that the Holy Ghoft regarded fuch a literal Exa&nefs is not probable. It may fuffice that there is an Allufion and Affinity in the Sound. And See Bucholcer though Matthew ufeth the Word Nazarene, as fignifying 2$5onoh pag. one of the Religious Order of the Nazarites; yet Pilate, John 19. t9. ufeth the fame Word of him, never dreaming of any thing more, than the Place where Ch ifi had dwelt. Some indeed have thought, that this E'Afage in Matth. z. 23. refers to Ifa. I t. I. where Chrilt is called Netfor, the Branch, a flourifbing Brnch. But we do not find that flourifhing Branches are called Nazarites in the Scripture : So Calvin in .114atth. 2. tilt. 2. In regard of his peculiar Holinefs and Separation unto God, They were ceremonially Holy ; but he was Holy indeed, and after an higher and infinitely more excellent and glorious manner. He is called that holy Thing that fhafl be born of thee, Luke r. 35. and Dan. 9. 24. the moll Holy, or the Holy of Holies. 2. The Naz.crites were Types of all the Saints and Members ofChrift. All Believers, who are an holy People, are Spiritual Nazarites feparated unto God ; I fay, all Believers, whether Male or Female. For there were Women Nazarites as well as Men, Numb. 6. z.
