But doubtlefs it was the Prieft ; for it isfaid of him that kills the Offering, that he fhald° flay it. verf. 5 but that was the Prieft's Work. And to the killing of the Sacrifice of Beafts, anfwers the wringing off the Head offacrificed Fowls. But this is Exprefly affirmed to be the Prieft's Work, verf. 15. Only this we find, that the Levites were added to the Priefts to affift them, and help them in the whole Work of their Miniftry, Numb. 8. 19. andwe find it often Recorded that they did fo, 2 Chron. 29. 34.. Therefore inverf. 22. in that Chap. where the Killers and the Priefts are diftinguiihed,it is not to be underftood concerning the People, as if they had killed the Offerings, but rather the Levites ; fee likewife x Cron. 23. 28, 31. and 2 Chron. 35. t o, So much for the literal Explication of this Ceremony; now for the Myfiery and Meaning of it. What might be Noted from hence, concerning Aaions and Admifi- ftrations properly and peculiarly Minifterial, we fhall obferve when we come tothat Place, to the legal Priefthood and Miniftry. But it is Plain and Obvious, that it holds forth the Death of Chrift, the Meff ïah was fiain and cut off, Dan. 9. 26. His Soul was made an Of- fering for Si; Ifa. 53.1a. As to that Circumftanceof killing it on the North Side of the Altar, verf. tt, the fame Rtile is given concerning the Sin - Offering, Lev. 6. 25.. and theTrefspafs- Offering, Lev. 7. t, 2. There be various'Appli- cations of-this. Some think there is no further Myftery in it, but that the Tabernacle-Door and theAltar were fo fituate and placed, that on the NorthSide there was more Space for fuchAfs as required moft Room; as the killing and drefling of the Sacrifices did ; fo our owl Annotators. But others conceive this Law was not without fomething of Myfte- ry in it : Some Notehow their greateft Troubles and Sufferings were from the North ; Jeremiah fees a Seething Pot, and the Faee thereof was towards the North, Jer. r. 13. and then verf. 14.
