But what think you Friends, is not Honey fweet and decent too ? But God requires it not : Therefore awaywith from the Meat-Offerings of the Lord. a. Learn that holy temperature and equability of Spirit, which be- oometh Saints in all the Conditions and Vicitfitudes they pafs through ; we muff take heed of Extremes. There fhould be neither Leaven nor Roney; neither too much fower, nor too much /'meet ; neither inordi- nate forrow, nor inordinate pleafures in the Meat-Offering of theSaints ; they fhould neither be dejetled nor lifted up, but in an even well com- poled frame and temper of Spirit, a Cor. 12. 7, io. neither leavened and fowred with difcontent under worldly Troubles, nor furfeited with the Sweetnefs and Honey of carnal Pleafure, and delight and contentment of the Creature. 3. Someapply it unto Chrifl himfelf, thus : That there is inChrift our Meat-Offering, ne fuchSweetnefs which turns to loathing, no fuch Plea- fure whereofa Man can take too much; there is no glutting, no fatiety, no after Sorrows, no fuchDelight as proves bitter in the latter End, as much Honey doth. Buton the contrary, themore any Man taftes of the Sweetnefs and Comfort that is in Him, the more he (hall long for it, and fay, Lord evermoregive as of this Bread, as Yohn 6. 34.. more of this Bread, moreof this Comfort, thisCommunion with God. He is not fweet at firft, and bitter afterwards but his'Yoke Teems heavieft at firft, but lighter afterward : He fpeaks firft of the Crofs, then of the Crown`of Glory. The fifthEnquiry concerning theMeat Offering is, concerning the Appurtenance of Drink -Offerings, by Divine Inffitution affixed and annex- ed to the 'Wear-Offering. I reckon it as an appurtenance to the Meat- Offering, for two Reafons. r. Becaufe it is not mentioned as a diftin& Species in that Enume- ration of the Legal-Offerings, which bath been fo often quoted Lev. 7. 37. The prink-Offering is there omitted, as being included and - underftood in the Meat-Offering. 2: Becaufe it was never offered alone under the Law, but always in conjunaion with the flainSacrifices,to compleat theMeat Offeringbelong- ing to them. It is true, before the Law we read of Drink- Offerings alone'; Yacob, Gen. 35. 14 be fit up a Pillar in Bethel, and be poured a Drink-Offering thereon, and be poured Oyl thereon.
