228 The Gofpel of the Peace -Offering. z. Another End of the Peace:Offerings, was for the Impetration or obtaining of Mercies wanted ; either in the way of a Vow, or a Free- will-Offering, Levit. 7. i6 udg. 20..26. The Tribes in their Faft for obtaining Vitìory againft the Benjamites, offered Peace - Offerings in the way of a Free-will-offering, Pfal. 56. i 2 Thy Vows are upon me O God, Iwill render Praifes unto thee : Or, I will pay Confeffions unto thee ; that is, he would in a way of Praife, offer the Peace-Offerings that he had vowed. So yonah z. 9. But I will facrifice unto thee with the voice of Thankfgiving, 1 will pay that 1 have vowed Salvation is of the Lord, Gen. 28. 20, zi, 22. yacob vowed to give to God, the Tenth of all that God fhould give him ; that is, as a Peace-Offering. The Difference between a Vow, and a Free-will-offering was only this. That in the Freewill-offering they did prefent the thing it felf unto the Lord ; but in a Vow they did fiat promife it, being (it may be) not in aCapacity to perform it at that Time. As 'Jonah in the Whale's Belly : And then when the Deliverance was beftowed, and the Prayer heard and granted, they paid their Vows unto the Lord. Hence force have thus referred and compared thefe three Sorts of Offerings hitherto defcribed, and dire&ed in this Book. That as the Burnt-Offering, Cap. t. principally figured our Reconciliation to God, by the Death of Jefus Chrift, and the Meat -Offering, Cap. a. had a fpecial refpea to our Sanftification in him before God ; fo this Peace- offering, figntfieth both Chrifl's Oblation of himleif, whereby he became our Peace and Salvation ; and likewife our Oblation of Praife, Thankf- giving and Prayer unto God, in the midit of our Troubles, Temptati- ons and fpiritual Confli&s, which we fight by Faith in this World ; So that in this Sacrifice, we come boldly to the Throne of Grace, that we may receive Mercy, and find Grace to help in Time of need, as Heb. q.. i6. Therefore forne have noted, That this Sacrifice of Peace- Offering, was often added under the Law to other forts of Sacrifices. Becaufe, befide the Expiation of Sin by the Blood of Chrift, there mutt be an effeaual Application of the Atonement in a way of aaual Ço nmuni- on with God, in a way of Grace and Peace through jefus' Chrift. Chrift doth not only procure Peace for us, but Communicate and ap- ply it to us. Here was an altual Participation, and an exercife of n us tMal Communion between God and the Prteft, and the. Offerers feafting togetker. Ojieft. What were the Times. and Seafons when they offered and were to offer Peace-offerings Anfii.
