The Gofpel of the Peace-Offering. 233 Chrift was not offered for the Priefts alone, or communicated to them alone, but for the People alfo. And that the Unclean are fo ftrialy excluded from either eating, or fo much as touching it. We fee how dangerous a thing it is, for unclean and unworthy Perfons to participate in the Feafts of the Lord. Hypocrites, that partake of the Sacraments in their Unclean - nefs and receive unworthily, they eat and drink their own Damnation, I Cor. r t. 27, 28, 29. The Flefh of thefe Sacrifices being a Figure of the Flefhof Chrift, which is to beeaten of the Saints by Faith. This Law fignified, that Unbelievers, Hypocrites, and wicked ones that profefs the Gofpel, and partake of the Signs and Seals of Grace un- worthily, do eat and drink Yudgment to themfelves. Aynfiv. in Lev. 7. 22. As no Peace - Offering belongs to the Unclean ; fo there is no Peace to the Wicked, faith my God. To the Wicked God faith, Wbat haft tbo,e to do to take my Covenant into thy Mouth, feeing thou hateft to be reform- ed, Pfal. 5o. And here comes in that Q cre concerning the Peace-Offerings;; Whether they wert of the Holy of Holies, whether they had the double, or only the Tingle Holinefs ? They are not called molt Holy, as the other five forts are. The reafon whereof is, becaufe that fume part of them was eaten by the People; but yet a part alfo was burnt upon the Altar, and another part eaten by the Priefts, and thefe parts were molt holy, though the whole was not. Therefore force have called the Peace-Offering, Sacrificium varium, a divers Sacrifice, as being partly Holy, and partly molt Holy. And the other forts they call fimplex ; by a Pimple Sacrifice, intending that which was all of it molt Holy : And the whole was to lhadow out the Sacrifice and Satisfaaion of Jefus Chrift : So Meek. Difc. 4.9. 2. The fecond Ceremony of the Peace-Offering, was the limitation of time for the eating of it. The parts belonging to the Prieft, and to the Offerer, rauft be eatenby them the fame Day, or the next : but ifany was left till the third Day,it mull be burnt withFire, Lev.7. r 5,16117,18: And here there is a diftin&ion in the Rule between the two forts or occafions of Peace-Offerings ; namely, That if it were for Tbankf- giving, it mutt be eaten the fame Day that it is offered : But if it were for a Vow, or a voluntary Offering, it moil be eaten the fame Day, and on the Morrow. The former Rule is in verf 15. The Rule for the lat- ter is in verf 16. But how if they didnot obferve this Rule ; fee the Penalty in verf. v7, 18. To eat any of it upon the Third day, was very deteftable and H h abominable :
