But then= the Queftion will be, what were thole Golde>ï lreffels that did ferve to that Ofe, andwhich of them waS here intended'? Anfw. It is a Ride which you have often heard, and müft always be remembred in the Expofition of Scripture :' That the Scripture muß be expounded in the largeft and molt comprebenfsve Senfe : Therefore ifthere were divers facred Vefï'els of this kind, they may be all included. The Holy Ghoft feems to have ufed fuch a general Expreflion, on purpofe to include them all : And fo this may reconcile the diffèrent Interpre- tations given by Expofitors. Now there were two Holy Vefïèls for this life. I. It is thought there was a Golden Cenfer, which was laid up in the Holy ofHolies all the Year till the Feaft of Expiation, and that then the Prieft went in and fetched it out, and offered Incenfe with it in the Holy of Holies. Such a Cenfer is mentioned by Yofepbus contra 4pio- nem, lib. a. And though it be not fo clearly and exprefly 'mentioned by Mefes ; yet there feems tobe force Intimation of it in Levit. 16. 12. Moreover, it is no newThing in the Scripture, that Things which are more briefly and more obfcnrely hinted in the Old Teftament, fhould be more plainly and more exprefly delivered in theNew. The two Teftaments, theOld and the New, looking one towards another, as the two Cherubims did over the Ark. As for inftance, the Names of thofe Conjurers that withftood Mofes' are not mentioned in the Hiftory in Exodus : But we have their Names in the New Teftament, their Names were 7annes and fambres, z TIm. 3.8. And the Conteft be- tween Michael and Satan about the Body of Malgs, and the Prophefy of Enoch are mentioned in the Epiftle of 7ude, bit no where in the Old Teftameat, as is generally conceived : Though learned 7..rskiur in- clines to judge the Conteft between Michael and Satan mentioned by lade, is that which we have reprefented in a' Vifion to Zechary the Prophet, Zech. 3. fee unius's Notes on dude and his Parallels, Apend. Parai. 16. And other Inftances might be given. So this Golden Cenfer; tho' not fo exprefly mentioned in the 'Old Teftament ; yet is twice mentioned in the New : Firft, in this Text, Heb. 9. q.. and again in Rev. 8.3. anFd there it is conjoyned "with the Golden
