Where Solemnities or folemn Affemblies is the general, and this Genus is diftributed into three Particulars, Feafts, New Moons, and Sabbaths; fo Iiikewife, Hof a. I I. I will alto caufe all her mirth toceaf her Feaft® days, her New Moons, and her Sabbaths, even every holy Affembly of hers. The firft Word is, Feafts, éoriís. in Hebrew moyed, fettimes, becaufe they came at fet- times of the Year. This is meant of their annual Fé- ítivals, which were in Number Five. The three Principal were, the Feaft of the Paffover, the Feaft of Prntecosi, and the Feaft of Tabernacles ; .which continued, the two for- mer each of them (even Days, the lait for eight Days together ; and the firft Day and the laft Day of them wereHoly Convocations, ,where in they were to do no furcile Work, but to be wholly vacant for the Word and Worfhip of God. The firft mention of them is in Exod. 23. 14---17. -They are more largely fpoken to in the 23d. Chapter of Leviticus; and again in Dent. 16. and briefly recapitulated and fummed up in Yerf, i6. Thefe were the principal ; becaufe then all the Males were to go up to 7erufalem; and therefore thefe three are fo often mentioned together. There were alfo two more, the Feaft of Trumpets, and the Feaft of Expiation. There are Five general Rules obfervable concerning all thefe yearly Feafts. i. As there is a Perfonal and Family-wor- 1hip: So there is Publickor Church- worfhip; of this kind is the Lord's Supper. If this be not an Ordinance of publick Worfhip under the Gofpel, there is none ; therefore to carry it to private Perfons upon their Death-beds, as the Papiffs do, is Unwarrantable and Superfti- tions. 2. It is to be obferved, that they were all in the Summer-time, and not in Winter : For the Paffover was upon the fourteenth Day of the firth Month, Penteco0 was feven Weeks after, and the Feaft of Taber- nacles"'was upon the fifteenth Day of the feventh Month. Hence is that Expreflion, Ails 27.9. Sailing is now dangerous, becaufe the Feaft was now already path, that is, the Feaft of Tabernacles._ The
