Chrift himfelf was a Man of Sorrows, and malt be fed upon with bitter and dolorous remembrance of our Sins, and of his Sufferings for them, r Cor. t r. 28, 31. the Grief we have put him to, fhould be Matter of Grief to us. Repentance and godly Sorrow moil go along with the exercife of Faith. And as Chrift fuffered before he entred into Glory ; fo all that will follow him muff bear the Crofs before they can wear the Crown. We cannot Reign with him except we fuffer with him. 3. They muft eat it without Leaven, and have no Leaven for feven Days, ver. 15. Leaven is of an infeaiug, fowring, fpreading Nature. It is put for falfe Do&rine, Beware of the Leaven of the Scribes and Pha4 rifees, Matth. 16. 6, 12. and the Apoftle interprets it as fignifying al- fo Hypocrify,r Cor 5.7,8. Purge out the old Leaven, and let us keep the Feafi with the unleavened Bread of Sincerity and Truth. So Christ interprets it to his Difciples, Luke 12. I. Beware ye of the Leaven of the Pharifes, which is Hypocri[y. And the Apoftie, r Cor. 5.8. applies it in parti- cular to the fowring, fwelling Luft of Malice. Let us keep the Feaft not with old Leaven, neither with the Leavenof Malice and Wickednefs . As they having eaten thePaffbver did prefently abftain from all Lea- ven for feven Days together ; fo we having once laid hold on Chrift,., and fed upon him by Faith, muft put away the old_Leaven of Sin and Corruption, purging our Hearts as they did their Houfes of it, not a Day, but feven Days, ferving the Lord in Holinefs and Rghteoufnefs ali the Days of our Lives.
