As to the 0fe and Signification of them, there be many Gofpel-InftruEtions to be con. fidered in this legal Shadow ; we 'hall mention feven. t. The general Scope of them was to fignify and fhadow forth the fòund of the Gofpel, the blefTed found of the Gofpel, which is called the joyful found, Pfal. 39. t 5. the Gofpel is calledglad Tidings, it is a joy- ful pleafant found indeed. Hence the Minifters of the Gofpel are faid to lift up their Voice like a Trumpet, Ifa. 58. a the Tong to of the jufl zs a5 choice Silver, Prov. i o. 2o. ( thefe Trumpets were of Silver ; ) the faithful di'{charge and execution of their Office is exprelFed by blowing of the TrKinpet, Hof. 8. r. God will have his Church inftruered not by Sight only, but by Voice, not by the Eye only, but by the Ear. Even under the Law the Lord would not have his People always to look for miraculous and immediate Guidance, but they were to order them- felves according to the found of the Trumpet both in War and Peace,, according to the Rule of the Word : So according to the Rules of the Gofpel, according as that Trumpet founds, fo are you to aa. This is the fiat, namely, the joyful found of the Silver Trumpet of the Gofpel. z. The goys and Graces of the Spirit of God is another thing intimated by this Trumpet and Inftrument of Mufick; that fpiritual Melody of the Joys and Graces of the Holy Ghoft in the Hearts of God's People, . There is a Melody and joyful Voice . in the Confciences of Believers, the Spirit of God both fan&ifying and comforting of them, fo the Apoltle, Col. 3, 16. Grace., and joy the fruit of Grace : So this Mufick remains in the Antitype of ir, the Heart- firings of Believers making Melody fuitable to the Profeffion of their Lips, and to the gracious and peaceable Converfation of their Lives, that is, the true Gofpel- Mufick. 3.
