I anfwer, Many Accounts are given by Interpreters, whichdo all center in this ; be- caufe of the many great Occurrences and Difpenfations of God in this Month, fome whereof were paft, and were now to be remembred, and force future, which were now to be proclaimed and prepared for. The World was created in this Month, which was at firft the firft Month in the Year, until the Account was changed upon occafion and in Memorial of their Deliverance out of Egypt. This Month fhall be to you the beginning of Months, it (hall be the firfi Month of the rear to you, Exod. 12. 2. intimating, that it was not fo before. There was approaching the Feaft of Atonement upon the tenth day of this Month, which is thought to relate to the Golden Calf, and the Lord's par- doning that Idolatry : Alfa the Feaft ofTabernacles on the fifteenth day. The Temple of Solomon was dedicated in this Month And in this Month alto was the Birth of ChriJJ ; at this time God affumed and ap- peared in our Nature, pitching his Tabernacleor Tent in our Flefh. All which things put together give force account of the feafon of this Feaft, and of the Solemnity of the blowing of Trumpets on the firft day of the feventh month. And fo much for thefourth of thefe Annual Feftivals, namely, the Feaft of Trumpets. V/e. Take this Inference, namely, the Vnwarrantablenef of Mufscal In- firmewl in the Worfhip of God now under the Gofpel. You feeof old there was an Inftitution for them, there is not fo now. They area very late Invention of the Church of Rome : A- 22. te q. quinas fpeaks againft them as not ufed in the Church in his Time, faying, they are legal, and prefigure fomething of Chrift; therefore are not continued under the Gofpel. Confider thefe three Things. z . They were a Type, that is evident ; and hereby is typified the Mu- fat and Melody of the Joys and Graces of the Holy Ghoft in the Hearts of God's People ; and many other Gofpel- Leffons and Inftre- &ions were held forth by this ancient legal Ordinance. And Types you know are ceafed, and Shadows are vanilhed now the Substance is come : Look therefore after the inward Mufick of a good Confcience, and the witnefs of the Holy Ghoft there;,; this is the Gofpel-Mu- fick. 2.
