" That all Sundays in the year, and principal feafts of Chrift, be P. 337 " kept holidays; and that all other holidays be abrogated. 2. " That in all parifh churches, the minifter in the common prayer, " turn his face towards the people, and there read diftinaly the fervice " appointed, that the people may hear and be edified. 3. " That in baptifm, the crois may be omitted, as tending to fuper- " ftition. 4 " Forafmnch as divers communicants are not able to kneel for age " and ficknefs, at the facrament, and others kneel and knock fuperftitioufly, " that therefore the order ofkneeling, may be left to the difcretion of the " ordinary. 5. " That the ufe of organs be removed." Thefe propofitions were the fubjeft of warm debates, Come approving RejetOed by a and others rejecting them. In conclufion, the houle being divided, ttlngle proxy. appeared upon the fcrutiny, that the majority of thofe prefent were for . approving them, 43 againft 35 ; but when the proxies were counted, the fcale was turned; thofe who were for the propofitions, being 58, and thofe againft them 59; fo that by the majorityof one Tingle voice, and that not a perfon prefent to hear the debates, but a proxy, it was determined to make no alteration in the ceremonies, nor any abatements of the prefent VoL.
