Mr. Wood fays, he was a perfon of great reading and memory, but of lefs judgment. He was exaCl:ly acquainted with all the ftl:oolmen, and fo much devoted to his book, that he was in a manner a il:ranger to the world; he was indefatigably indull:rious, and as well qualified for an academic as any per– fon of his time. Dr. Wilkinjon was rell:ored. The year following (r647) he was made prefident of Magdalen College in the room of Dr. O!iver; he was a learned and pious man, died Jan. 2. Dr. Henry lf'dkillfon, jun. commonly called Dean Harry, principal nf Magdalen Hall; he was a noted tutor, and moderator in his college before the commencemet of the civil wars, upon the breaking out of which he left Oxford and came to London, but when that city was furrendered to the parliament he returned to the univerfity, and was created D. D. made principal of his hall, and moral philofophy profc!for in tbe room of Mr. Birkenbead. Mr. Wvod fays, that be took all ways imagin– able to make his houfc fiouril11 with young fiudents; that he was a fi:e– quent and active preacher, and a good difciplinari an; for which reafon the heads of the univerfity perfuaded him earneilly to conform at the rd1:oration, that they might keep him among them, but he refufed.
