And whereas the fame Truth enjoyns unto us Duties, many of them contrary unto our Inclinations, and crofs unto our feveral Interefis, the great Guides rf corrupted Nature; the Revelation of it mufr pro– ceed from Soveraign Authority, that the Will may comply with the Mind in the embracement of it. All thefe are ab– folutely fecured fn the 'Divine Perfon of the great Prophet of the Church. His Infinite Wifdom, his Infinite Goodnefs, his Effential Veracity, his Soveraign Authority over alJ, give the highefr Aifurance wher~ofa created underfranding is ca– pable, that nothing is detained from us, that there is no roffibility ·ofErrour or mifiake in what is declared unto us, nor any pretence left of declining Obedience unto the Com– mands of the Truth that we do receive. This gives the foul a_ffured Refl and Peace in the belief of t_hings whic}:l F)e hath not feen, nor Ear henrd, nor can enter into the heart of man to conceive, Upon the Affurance of this Truth alone ~an it with joy prefer things invifible and eternal above all pr_efent fatisfachons and defires. In the perfwafion hereof can it forego the l;efl of prefent enjoyments, and undergo the worfl of prefent evils; namely, in the experience of 1ts prefent Efficacy, and choice of that future Rccompence which it cloth fecure. And he believes not the Gofpel unto his own Advantage, or the Glory of God whofe Faith refrs not in the Divine Perfon of]efus Chrifi, the great Prophet of the Church. And he who there finds reil: unto his foul, dares not admit of any Copartners with him as to Infrruchon in the 'Mind of God. ]hirdly, It was requilite unto the Office of this great Pro· .phet oftheChnrch, and the Difcharge thereof, that he fl1ould have Power andAuthority to fend the Holy Spirit to make his Revelations of Divine Truth effettual unto the minds of men.. ,.
