Moti)Jes unto tlJe Lo1Je of C!Jrift. 2 2 5 2. ADeclaration of the w.ry and manner how Believers do live uponChrifi in theexercife ofFaith, whereby:accordingto the Promife ~0d Appointment ofGod, they derive from him the \vhqleGrace and Mercy whereof in this world they are made partakers, and are efl:ablifhed in the expeCtation of what they fhall receive hereafter ' by his Power. And · that two things do hence enfue. ( 1 ) The neceility ofuniverfal E v angelical O!Jedience, feeing it is only in and by the Duties of it, that Faith is or can be kept in a due exercife unto the ends mentioned. (2.) That Believers do hereby encreafe con~ tinually witb tbe encreafe of God, and grow up into him who is the Head, until they become the fulnefs of him who filleth all in aiL 3. A Convifrion that a real Interefr in,and Participation of thefe things, cannot be obtained any other way, but by the afrual exercife of Faith on the ·Ferfon ofJefus Chrift. Thefe things were neceffary to be handled at large with reference unto the end propofed. But for fundry rea1ons the whole of this labour is here declined. For fome of the par– ticulars mentioned, I have already infifl:ed on in other Dif.. courfes heretofore publiihed, and that with refpefr unto the end here defigned. And this Argument cannot be handled as it cloth deferve unto full fatisfafrion without an entireDif– courfe concerning the Life ofFaith, which my prefent defign will not admit of. 6 g C HAP. /
