That Humane Nature might be refiored, or any portion ofManl'iind be eternally faved unto the Glory ofGod,it was ne~ cefTary,as we proved before,that an O/;edience Jhould beyielded unto Godandhis Law, which fhould give and bring more Glo- . ry and Honour unto his Holinefs, than there was Difhonour refleCted on it, by the Difohedience of us all. Thofe who are otherwife minded, care not what becomes of the Glory ofGod, fo that wicked finful man may be faved. one way or other. But thefe thoughts fpring out of our Apoflajj, and belong not unto that efiate wherein we loved God above all, and preferred his Glory above all, as it was with us at the firfl: in "the original con!l:itution ofour Nature. But fuch an Obedience could never be yielded unto God by any meer creature whatever; not by any one who was only a, man, however dignified and exalted in fiare and condition above all others. For to fuppofe that God fhould ·be pleafed and glorified ~ith the Obedience of any one man, more than he was difpleafed and difhonoured by the Difo!Jedie11ce of Adam and all his PoHerity, is to fancy things that have no ground in Reafon or JuO:ice, or any way fuirable unto Divine Wif– dom and Holinefs.
