2 64 : An humbleEnquiry into tl;e Infinite Wijdom ofGod the other hand, whoever cloth truly and fincerely believe the Dtvine Perfon of Chrifr, namely, that he was God and Man in one Pcrfon, and as iuch a Perfon acted in the whole work of Mediation, he cannot fhut his eyes againfi: the glo· rious Light of this Tr~th, that what he did and fuffered in that work, mufi: have an intrin!ick worth and excellc::ncy in it, out-ballancing all the evil in the !ins of Mankind ; that more honour and glory accrewed unto the Holinefs and Law of God by his Obedience, than diihonour was cafr on them , by the Difohedience of Adam and all his pofierity. 4· The way whereby the Church was to be recovered and faved was by fuch works and afrings, , as one fhould take on himfelf to perform in the way of an Ojfice committed unto him for that End. For whereas man could not recover, ran– fame, nor fave himfelf, as we have proved, the whole mu£1: be wrought'for him by another. Theundertaking hereof by another, mufi depend on the Infinite Tflifilom, Counfel and Pleafure of God, with the Will al)d Confent of him who was to,undertake it. So alfo did the confiitution of the way and means in particular whereby this Deliverance was to be wrought. Hereon it became his 0./fice to do the things which were' required unto that end. But we have before proved apart by it felf that no Ojfice unto this purpofe could be difcharged towards God, or the whole Church, by any one who was a man only. I fhall not therefore here farther in!ifi upon it, although there be good argument in it unto our prefent purpofe. 5. If man be recovered, he mufi be r.efiored into the fame flate, condition and dignity wherein he was placea before the falL To refiore him with any diminution 'of Honour and Bl~(Jedn~{s, was not fuited urito Divine Wifdom and Bounty.
