Wherefore all Protefiants ( and the Socinians all of them comply therein ) do affirm that the ufe and fignification of thefe words is Forenfick, denoting an Aer of Jùrifdi&ion. Only the So- cinians, and force others would have it to confifi in the pardon of fin only , which indeed the word Both not at all lignifie. But the fenfe of the word, is to Affoil, to Acquit, to Declare and pronounce Righteous upon a Trial, which in this cafe, the pardon of Sin Both necelfarily accompany. gu.ificatio and juftifico belong not indeed unto the Latine Tongue ; nor can any good Authour be produced who ever ufed them, for the making of him inherently Righteousby any means who was not fo before. But whereas thefe words were coyned and framed to lignifie fuch things as are intended, we have no way to determine the fignification of them, but by the confideration of the nature of the things, which they were invented to declare and lignifie. And whereas in this Language thefe words are derived from Jus and :uilura, they muff refpeet an Ad of jurifdiclion, rather then a Phy or infufion.
