whereon it cloth depend. 2 05 fins. T do ftill fuppofe the imputation of Righteoufnefs to concur unto our Juftification, although we have not yet exa- mined what Righteoufnefs it is that is imputed. But that God in our Juftifieation imputeth Righteoufnefs unto us, is fo exprefly affirmed by the Apoille, as that it muff not be called in queftton. Now the firft a& of God in the imputation of Righteoufnefs cannot be repeated. And the aecual pardon of fin after Juftification, is an effe& and confequent of that im- putation of Righteoufnefs. If any man fin, there k a Pro- pitiation; deliver him, :1 have found a Ranfonme. Wherefore unto this a&ual pardon, there is nothing required, but the application of that Righteoufnefs which is the caufe of it and this is done by Faith only. 2. The Continuation of our 5uflification, is before God, or in the fight of God no lets than our abfolute Juftification is. We fpeak not of the fenfe and evidence of it unto our own Souls unto peace with God ; nor of the evidencing and ma- nifeftation of it unto others by its effe &s; but of the con- tinuance of it in the fight of God. Whatever therefore is the means, condition, or caufe hereof, is pleadable before God, and ought to be pleaded unto that purpofe. So then the enquiry is, What it is that, when a jufli rd perfon is guilty of Sin (as guilty he is more or lets every day) and his Confcience is preffed with a f nfe thereof, as that only thing which can endanger or intercept his juftifed Eftate, his Favour with God, and Title unto Glory, he betakes himfelf unto, or ought Jo to do, for the continuance of his State, and pardon of Lis: Sins, what he plead eth unto that purpofe, and what it available thereunto. That this is not his own Obedience, his perfonal Righteoufnefs, or fulfilling the condition of the new Covenant, is evident, from ( ) the experience of Believers themfelves (2 )Tefi- mony of Scripture, and ( 3 ) the Example of them whole cafes are recorded.therein. ;.. x.
