Imputation, and the .Nature of °t All that we now aim to demonflrate, is only, that either the Righteoufneí of Chrifi it felf is imputed unto us,or there is no Imputation in the matter of our Juflification, which whe- ther there be or no, is another Queflion afterwards to be fpo- ken unto. For as was Paid, the efeCts of the Righteoufilefs- of Chrift, cannot be faid properly to be imputed unto us. For Inflance, Pardon of fin is a great efeec of the Righte -t oufnefs of Chrifl: Our fins are pardoned on the account thereof. God for Chrifts fake forgíveth us all our fins. But the pardon of fin cannot be Paid to be imputed unto us, nor is fo. Adoption, Juftification, Peace with God, all Grace and Glory, are effects of the Righteoufnefs of Chrifl. But that thefe things are not imputed unto us, nor can be fo, is evident from their Nature But we are made Partakers of them all, upon the account of the Imputation of the Righ- teoufnefs of Chrift unto us, and no otherwik. Thus much may fuffice to be fpoken of the Natnre of Im- putation of the Righteoufnefs of Chrifl; the Grounds, Rea- Ions, and Caufes whereof, we fhall in the next place enquire into. And I doubt not but we (hall find in our Enquiry, that it is no fuch figment, as fome Ignorant of there things, do imagine, but on the contrary, an Important Truth mixed with the moft fundamental Principles of the myflery of the Gofpel, and infeparable from the Grace of God. in Chrift Jefus. a . 245; :áLA.1?!.
