In the new Teftament, he that is guilty, is Paid to be ,zrSd}wos, Rom. 3. 19. that is, obnoxious to Judgment or ven- geance for fin ; one that;, oiwn tam, as they (peak, A. 28.4. whom vengeance will not fuffer to go unpunithed. And rvoxc9 I Cor. r s. 27. a word of the fame fignification. Once by 4ti,Aw, Matth. 23. 18. to owe, to be indebted to Ju- ftice. To be obnoxious , liable unto Jufice, Vengeance, Punifhment for fin, is to be guilty. Rees, guilty in the Latine is of a large fignification. He who is Crimini obnoxiar, or Rene propterCrimen, or Voti de- bitor, or Promiffi, or offecij ex f#on(ione, is called, Rees. Efpe- cially every fjonfor or Surety, is Reus in the Law. Cum fervor pecuniam pro libertate paeho eft, & ob eam rem, Reum dederit, (.that is, ffonforem, expromiffrem) quamvis fervus ab olio ma- numifus efe, Rear tamen obligabitur. He is Reus who in- gageth himfelf for any other, as to the matter of his ingage- ment. And the fame is the ufe of the word in the heft La- tine Authors.
