If guilt was not imputed unto Chrift, he could not, aS they plead well enough, undergo the punithment of fin much he might do and fuffer on the occafion of fin, but undergo the puniíhment dice unto fin he could not. And if it fhould be granted that the guilt of fin was imputed unto him, they will not deny but that he underwent the punith- ment of it ; and if he underwent the ptrnithment of it, they will not deny but that the guilt of it was imputed unto him ; For thefe things are infeparably related. 3. Chrift was made a Curfe for us, the Curfe of the Law 5 as is exprefly declared, Gal. 3. 13, 14. But the Curfe of the Law refpets the guilt of fin only ; So as that where that is not, it cannot take place in any fenfe, and where that is, it doth infeparably attend it, Deut. 27. 26. 4. The exprefs Te tinionies of the Scripture unto this purpofe cannot be evaded, without an open wreftingg of their words and fenfe So God is Paid to make all our Ini- quities to meet upon him ; and he bare them on him as his burden, for fo the word fignifies, Ifa. 53. 6.
