The Foiml Cáuf é of . f ini ficdtion: Ttath received no injury or damage. But in ponal frf Bring for crimes and fins, there can be no righteous conftitution that [hall make the event and efficacy of it to depend on a Condition abfolutely uncertain, and which may not come to páfs or be fulfilled. For if the Condition fail, no Recom- pence can be made unto him that bath fuffered. Wherefore the way of the Application of the fatisfa &ion of Chrift unto them for whom it was made, is fore and fl'edfffl in the purpofe of God. s. God hath appointed that there [hall be an immediate Foundation of the Imputation of the Satisfá &ion and Righ- teoufuefs of Chrift unto us, whereon we may be Paid to have done and fuffered in him, what he did and fuffered in our atead, by that Grant, Donation, and Imputation of it unto us ; or that we may be intereffed in it, that it may be made ours, which is all we contend for. And this is our aeluál co alefcenry into one nayfiical perf n.with' him by Faith. Hereon dòth the neceffity of Faith originally depend. And if we [hall add hereunto the neceffity of it likewife unto that el- pedal Glory of God which he defigns to exalt in our Juftifi- cation by Chrift, as alto unto all the ends of our Obedience unto God, and the Renovation of'our Natures into his Image, its ftátion is füfficiently -fecured againft all Objections. Our aetual Intereft in the fatisfa&tion of Chrift, depends on our a &ual Infertion into his myftical Body by Faith, according to the Appointment of God. 4th/y. It is yet obje &ed., That if the Righteoufüef of Chrift be made ours, -we may fail to be Saviours of the World as he ivas, or to fave others as he did. For he was fo and did fo by hir Righteoufnef and no- átherwife. This Obje &ion alfo is of the fame nature with thole foregoing, a meer `Sophical Cavil. For I. The Righteoufnels of Chrift is not transfufed into ue, to as to be made inherently and fubjeCtively ours, as it was in R r 2
