That Chrift did fuflain the place of a furety, or was the furety of the New Covenant, 'the Scri- pture loth fo exprefly affirm, that it -cannot be denied. And that there may be fureties in cafes' criminal, "`as well as civil and pecuniary, hath been proved before. What elfe occurs about the fingularity of Chrijis Obedience as he was Mediator, proves only that his'Righteoufnefs as formally and inherently his, was peculiar unto himfelf, and that the AdjunCfs of it which arifè from its relation unto his perfon, as it was inhe- rent in him, are not communicable unto them to whom it is imputed. It is moreover urged, That upon the fuppofed Imputation of the Righteoufnef of Chrifl, it will follow that every Believer is pl./bled by the works of the Law.
