Upon the fuppofition of the Creation of man, the Law mentioned was neceffary from all the Divine Properties of the nature of God ; And upon a fuppofition that man would Tranfgrefs that Law, God be- ing now confidered as his Ruler and Governour, the Cogi- tation of the punifhnment due unto his Sin and Tranfgreffion of it, was a neceffary effe& of Divine Righteoufnefs. This it would not have been, had the Law it Pelf been Arbitrary. But that being neceffary, fo was the penalty of its Tranfgref- lion.. Wherefore the conf}itution of this penalty, is liable to no more change; alteration, or abrogation, then the Law it felf, without an alteration in the ftate and relation be- tween God and man. 8. This is that Law, . which our Lord Jefus. Chrift came not to defiroy, hut to fdfil, that he might be the end of it for Righteoufnefs unto them that do believe. This Law he abrogated not, nor coulddo fo without a Deflruecion of the Relation that is between God and man, arifing from or . enfu- ing neceffarily on their díf}in& Beings and Properties. But as this, cannot be deftroyed, fo the Lord Chrift came unto a contrary end namely, to repair and reftore it where it was weakned. Wherefore 9. This Law, the Law of Sink ßperfeïl Obedience, with its fentence of the punifhment of , Death on all Tranfgreflòrs, doth and muff abide in force for ever in this. World; For there is no more required hereunto, but that God be God, and Man be Man. Yet {hall this be farther proved. t. There is nothing, not one wordin the Scripture intima- ting any alteration in, or Abrogation of this Law; fo as that any thing íhould not be ditty which it makes to be duty, or any thing not be fin, which it makes to be fin, either as unto matter or degrees, or that the thing which it makes to be fin, or which is hnby the Ruleof it, fhould not merit and deferve that
