386 The Imputation of the obedience of Cbrill Behold I have caufed thine iniquity to pal; from thee ; and I will cloath thee with change of rayment. And I Paid, Let them fet a fair Miter upon his Head ; fo they Jet a fair Miter on his Head, and cloathed him with garments. It hath been generally grant- ed, That we have here a fteprefentation of the Juffification of a [inner before God. And the taking away of filthy gar - ments, is expounded by the pang away of iniquity. When a Mans filthy garments are taken away, he is no more defiled with them; but he is not thereby cloathed. This is an ad- ditional grace and favor thereunto, namely to be cloathed with change of garments. And what this rayment is, is de- clared ifa. 61. ao. He hath cloatl ed me with the garments of Salvation, he bath covered me with the robe of Righteoufnefs, which the Apoftle alludes unto Phil. 3.9. Wherefore thefe things are diffinét; namely, the taping away of the filthy gar- ments, and the cloathing of us with change of rayment; or the pardon of fin, and the robe of Righteoufnefs; by the one are we freed from Condemnation, by the other have we right unto Salvation. And the fame is in like manner reprefented Ezell. 16. 6,7,8, 9, 10, II, 12. This place I had formerly urged to this purpofe about Communion with God, p. 187. which Mr. Hotch. in his ufual manner attempts to anfwer. And to omit his reviling ex- preffìons, with the crude unproved affertion of his own conceits, his anfwer is, That by the change of rayment men- tioned in the Prophet, our own perfonal righteoufnef is intended. For he acknowledgeth that our Jollification before God is here reprefented. And fo alfb he expounds the piace pro- duced in the confirmation of the Expofition given, Ifai. 61.. go. where this change of rayment is called Thegarments of Salvation, and the robe of Righteoufnefs; and thereon affirms, That our Righteoufnefs it felt, before God, is our perfonal l'ä ighteoufïìefs, p. 203.
