3 90 The Imputation of the obedience of Chri.i Chrift thould be imputed unto them who derive a spiritual Nature from him, unto the Jufiification of life ? Betides both the Satísfadion and Obedience of Chrift, as relating unto his person, were in tome fenfe infinite, that is, of an infinite Value, and fo cannot be confidered in Parts, as though one Part ofit were imputed unto one, and another unto another, but the whole is imputed unto every one that doth believe; And if the Ifraelites could fay, that David was worth ten thoufand of them, 2 Sam. a I. 3. we may well allow the Lord Chrift, and fo what he did and fuffered , to be more than us all, and all that we can do and fufFer. There are allo fundry other miftakes that concur unto that part of the Charge againft the imputation of the Righte- oufners of Chrift unto us , which we have now confidered. I fay of his Righteoufnefs; for the Apoftle in this cafe ufeth thofe two words d> í44,ua, and ,iarax4 Righteoufnefs and Obe- dience, as io- ,Avatcép ru, of the fame fignificatíon, Rom. 5. 18,i . fuch are thofe, that Remion of sin and juftifrcation are the fame, or that Juftification confifteth only in the Remijonof Sin ; that Faith it felf as our Act and Duty being it is the Condition of the Covenant, is imputed unto us for Righteouf- nefs; or that we have a perfonal inherent Righteoufnef of our own, that one way or other is our Righteoufnefs before God unto Juftification ; either a Condition it is, or a Difpofition unto it ; or bath a congruity in deferving the Grace of Juftifi- cation, or a down -right merit of condignity thereof. For all there are but various expreffions of the fame thing, according unto the Variety of the Conceptions of the Minds of men about it. But they have been all confidered and removed in our precedent Difcourfes.
