And this fo exprefly given by Mofes as the Suns of the Law, namely Faith and Love, as the Principle of all our Obedience , Dent. 6. 4, 5. that it is marvellous what fhould induce any learned fober Perfon to fix upon any other fenfe of it; as that it refpecfed ceremonial or external Works only, or fuch as may be wrought without Faith or Love. This is the Law concerning which the Apoftle difputes , and this the Obedience wherein the Works of it do conff. And more then this, in the way of Obedience God never did nor will require of any in'this World. Wherefore the Law and the Works thereof , which the Apoflle excludeth from Juftifiça- tion, is that whereby we are obliged to believe in God as One God, `the only God , and love him with all our Hearts and Souls, and our Neighbours as our (elves. And what Works there are, or can be in any Perlons regenerate or not regene- rate; to be performed in the ftrength of Grace, or without it, that are acceptable unto God, that may not be reduced unto thefe Heads, I know not. 2. The Apoftle himfelf declareth, that it is the Law and the Works of it in the fenfe we have expreffed, that he e -- cludeth "from our Juftification. For the Law he fpeaks of, is the Law of Righteoufnefs , 'Rom 9. 31. The Lam whofe Righteoufneßis to be fulfilled in us, that we may be accepted with God, and freed from Condem- nation, chap. 8.3. That in Obedience whereunto;' our own perfonal R ghteoufne! doth conf it, whether what we judg fo, before`Converfion, Rom. ro. 3., or what is fo after it,Phil.3.9 The Law which if a man obferve, he (hall live, and be jufti- fled before God, Rom. 2. i3.
