Faith done. 4 2 Yoh. a i. t. chap .3.11. chap. 12. 48. Chap. t 4.17. And it is a receiving of chrifl, as he is the Lord our Righteoufnef, as of God he is made Righteoufnefs unto us. And as no G race, no Duty can have any co-operation with Faith herein, this Reception of Chrift not belonging unto their Nature, nor eomprized in theirExercife; fo it excludes any other Righte- oufnefsfrom our Juftification but that of Chrift alone. For we are juftified by Faith; Faith alone receiveth Chrift, and what it receives is the Caufe of our Juftification, whereo.. we become the Sons of God. So we receive the Atonement, made by the blood of Chrift, Rom. 5. 1 1. For God hath fet him forth to be a Propitiation through Faith in his Brood. And this receiving of the Atonement, includeth the Souls Appro- bation of the way of Salvation by the blood of Chrift , and and the Appropriation of the Atonement made thereby unto our own Souls. For thereby allo we receive the forgivenefá of sins; That they may receive the forgivenefs of sin, through the Faith that is in me, Alts 26. 18. In receiving Chrift we receive the Atonement , and in the Atonement we receive the forgivenefs of Sins. But moreover, the Grace of God, and Righteoufiief it f lf, as the Efficient and Material Caufe of our Juttification are received alfo ; even the Abundance of Grace, and the Gift of Righteoufnefs , Rom. 5. 17. So that Faith with the refpea unto all the Caufes of Juttification is expreffed by receiving. For it allo receiveth the Promif , the infirumentalCaufe on the Part of God thereof, Ater 2.41. Heb. 9. 15. (2.) That the Nature of Faith and its acing with refpett unto all the Caufes of Juftification confifting in receiving, that which is the Objeâ of it mutt be offered, ten - dred, and given unto us, as that which is not our own , but is made our own by that giving and receiving ; This is evi- dent in the general Nature of receiving. And herein as was obferved, as no other Grace or Duty can concur with ir, fo the Righteoufnefs whereby we are luftified can be none of our
