As though we were grown wi- fer than he, or that Spirit whereby he was infpired, guided, acted in all that he wrote; But there can be nothing more Alien from the genius of Chrif ian Religion , than for us not to endeavour humbly to learn the Myáery of the Grace of God , herein, in the Declaration of it made by him. But the foundation of God filandeth fare , what courfe foever men (hall be pleafed to take into their Profeffion of Religion. For the Tettimonies which I (hall produce and infifi upon, I defire the Reader to obferve, (i.) That they are but form of the many that might be pleaded unto the fame purpofe. (2.) That thole which have been, or yet (hail be alledged on particular occafaons, I (hall wholly omit; and fuch are molt of them that are given unto this Truth in the old Teflament. (3.) That in the Expofition of them, I fhall with what diti= gence I can attend ; (t.) Unto the Analogy of Faith, that is the manifeft (cope and defign of the Revelation of the Mind and will of God in the Scripture. And that this is to exalt the Freedom and riches of his own Grace, the Glory and Excellency of Chrift , and his Mediation, to difcover the woful, loft, forlorn condition of man by Sin, to debate and depre(s every thing that is in and of our felves, as to the attaining Life, Righteoulnels and Salvation , can- not be denied by any who have their fenfes exerciled in the
