Apparent it is from hence, and from what he affirms con- cerning Abraham, Chap. 4. v. 2. that a great part, at leafs, of the controverfie he had about Juftification, was whether it did admit of any Yu,Jxion or YAv2d,, in thofe that were juftified. And it is known that the Jews placed all their Hopes in thofe things whereof they thought they could boaft, namely their Priviledges and their Righteoufnefs. But from the declara- tion made of the Nature and Caufes of Juftification, the Apoftle infers that allBoating whatever is utterly (hut out of doors; 6 swxHc.. But wherever refpe l is had unto any condition or qualification in one more than another, efpecially if it be of works, it giveth a ground of Boeing, as he affirms, Chap. 4. 2. And it appears from comparing that verfe with this, that wherever there is any influence of our own works into our Juftification, there is a ground of boating ; but in Evangelical 7uftifiéation, no fuch hoafting in any kind can be admitted : Wherefore there is no place for Works in our Juftification before God ; for if there were, it is impofiìble but that a Y,yGx,,.a in one kind or other before God, or man mutt be admitted. 2.
